SPEAKERS

Prof. Gábor Scharioth

MD, PhD

Prof. Gábor B. Scharioth graduated from the Medical Faculty of the Humboldt University (Campus Charité), Berlin. He is co-founder of one of the leading private centers in Germany – Aurelios Augenzentrum Reckling-hausen. His main field of interest is surgical treatment of macular diseases, glaucoma surgery, cataract and refractive surgeries. He is one of the pioneers of deep sclerectomy and canaloplasty surgery for glaucoma. He is author or co-author of many German and international scientific publications. Actively taking part in many international congresses with a number of video & scientific paper awards, he is a member of many international scientific ophthalmological societies. He is the inventor of “Glaucolight” and of a new Macula Lens. Prof. Scharioth also works as a scientific consultant for companies like Alcon, DORC and Medicontur.

Joaquín Fernández Pérez

MD, PhD

Dr. Joaquín Fernández, MD is specialized in Ophthalmology and Anterior Segment Surgery: Refractive Surgery, Presbyopia, Keratoconus, and Cataracts, obtaining his PhD in Physics applied to Sciences and Technology by the University of Alicante (Spain). Nowadays, he is Medical Director at QVision, Ophthalmological Unit of Vithas Hospital Group in Almería. He is also in charge of the Ophthalmological Department at the Torrecárdenas Hospital (Almería) and leads the Keratoconus Department in the East Andalusian, both in the Health Public System. Member of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ESCRS), he has published in national and international research journals (JRS, JCRS, etc) in addition to his participation in the writing of books related to the specialty. As anterior segment surgeon with a wide experience, he has conducted live surgeries and communications at many national and international ophthalmology congresses.

Prof. Sathish Srinivasan

MD, FRCSEd, FRCOphth, FACS

Professor Srinivasan is a consultant corneal surgeon and joint clinical director at the University Hospital in Ayr, Scotland. He completed his Ophthalmology residency in the Aravind Eye Hospital in India, and went for higher surgical training to the St. Paul’s Eye Unit of the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, UK. Later he won a two-year clinical fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases and Refractive Surgery in the University of Toronto, Canada. His main fields of professional interest are lamellar corneal surgery, micro-incision cataract surgery, and anterior segment reconstruction. He has published over 85 papers in peer-reviewed journals, has held over 60 scientific presentations at national and international congresses. He is a recipient of the Achievement Award and International Scholar Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In 2012 he was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons, and is the associate editor of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Alexandra Kontur

MD, PhD

Dr. Alexandra Kontur graduated in 1996 from the Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. From 1996 to 2006 Dr. Kontur worked for the Department of Ophthalmology of the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University and specialized in the field of inflammatory eye diseases. She conducted research work at the Department of Medical Chemistry and Clinical Biochemistry of the Medical Faculty and focused on oxidative damage of the retina and crystalline lens under oxidative stress. She has authored and co-authored several scientific publications and books focused on uveitis, which were repeatedly awarded by the Czech Society of Ophthalmology as best published clinical paper. Her clinical paper “Diagnosis and treatment of intraocular lymphoma” was cited best worldwide clinical paper during the 2006 WOC in Sao Paulo. As the scientific director at Medicontur Medical Engineering, Dr. Alexandra Kontur has been leading clinical studies and clinical symposiums, enhancing the scientific department of the company since 2010.
